sometimes it takes a conversation to realise how blessed you are

dianne fell down the stairs today.

she was contemplating whether or not to skip the one afternoon class she has in order to run arnd and get things all set for her cousin's engagement party tmr, plus, a youth event she's in charge of. with such a dilemma on her mind, she wasnt paying attention (though i must admit, the stairs of NTU arent slip-proof either) and fell down the stairs, thereby splitting her left big toe nail into two (horizontally).

believe me when i say it bled. because it bled. seriously; staining the front of her high-heeled slipper and her second toe in blood.

i made her see the doctor (because there was just so much blood considering it's just a split nail). only one doctor was in, and there was a queue so we got a quick temporary bandage and took the lift down to the horrific can B for lunch.

and there we had a wonderful revelation(s)..

ameera replied to an earlier message dianne had sent her, asking her to help take down notes as she had decided to skip class. "there's no class today. the teacher decided to cancel it in the last minute and had sent an email the night before."
wow.
dianne fell at the last few steps on the flight, closer to the landing. she could have slipped at the beginning of the flight of steps and fall the whole flight.
wow.
she had one last flight of steps to walk down before exiting the stairwell at B2 (which coincidentally is the floor where the medical center is).
wow.
the flight of steps she fell from was in the south spine of NTU, where the medical center was located.
wow.
there is a lift that goes directly from B2 (just opposite the medical enter) down to B5. and it's just a short walk up a small slope into the canteen.
wow.
when we both finished eating lunch, and returned to wait at the medical center (which wasnt long), then, did dianne's toe start hurting.
wow.

we realised how wonderfully blessed she was in the midst of all this; the split nail, the blood..

i missed my piano class with ms chuan because i just wanted to accompany dianne since she's alone and experiencing discomfort.

in a way i'm glad i did.

because if not, i wouldnt have had that conversation with her.
i wouldnt have been there to be her crutch when she walked down the slope.
i wouldnt have been there to tell her where the lift is so she wldnt have to walk down flights of steps with the split nail to lunch.
i wouldnt have been there to help protect her bandaged remaining nail frm other pple by standing on her left.
i wouldnt have been encouraged by a fellow sister in Christ.

sometimes when ure down, all it takes is a teeny tiny effort to close your eyes in the mrt and ask God to touch your day and make it count. and then keeping your eyes peeled all day to consciously witness the miracles and blessings our wonderful God has generously sugared onto your day.

i closed my eyes today on the mrt on the way to school.

"God, what can i do for you?"

"how about giving me your life? how about giving me your day?"

"okay."

flabbergasted at how much i've gained from just saying "okay."
